De combinatie van zonnepanelen op daken van (ook kleinere en oudere) distributiecentra en bedrijven én een eigen oplaadstation voor elektrisch vrachtvervoer heeft grote potentie, blijkt uit nieuw onderzoek van Natuur & Milieu. Met panelen op de daken van alle distributiecentra, kan al in de helft van de stroombehoefte voor alle elektrische vrachtwagenkilometers in Nederland worden voorzien. Als daar de daken van ‘utiliteitsgebouwen’ zoals fabriekshallen, kantoren en agrarische bedrijven bij komen, biedt dat voldoende stroom voor de behoefte voor álle vrachtkilometers. Natuur & Milieu wil bedrijven bekend maken met de mogelijkheden en wijst lokale en landelijke overheden op de grote potentie op bedrijventerreinen om bij te dragen aan de opgave om meer duurzame energie in de regio’s op te wekken en tegelijkertijd het volle elektriciteitsnet te ontlasten.
De transitie naar schoon vrachttransport is een belangrijke stap in het omlaag brengen van de CO2- én stikstofuitstoot van het verkeer. In 2025 moeten in 30 tot 40 Nederlandse stadcentra ‘zero-emissie zones’ voor vrachtvervoer zijn. Dat betekent dat winkels en horeca bevoorraad móeten worden met vooral elektrisch aangedreven vervoer. Van leveranciers en distributeurs vraagt dit om een overstap naar elektrisch vrachtvervoer, maar hobbels zoals kosten, kennis en netcapaciteit staan dat nu nog te vaak in de weg. ‘Er is echter meer mogelijk en meer ondersteuning dan veel bedrijven weten. Met een slim energiesysteem kunnen bedrijven en distributiecentra veel geld op brandstof en elektriciteit besparen’, aldus directeur Programma’s Rob van Tilburg van Natuur & Milieu.
Financieel aantrekkelijk en geen overvol stroomnet
Juist de combinatie van het opwekken van stroom en eigen gebruik is technisch vrijwel altijd haalbaar en maakt de overstap naar zero-emissie transport aantrekkelijk. Zelf opgewekte stroom is relatief goedkoop en er kunnen extra inkomsten worden verkregen dankzij het verkopen van Hernieuwbare Brandstof Eenheden (HBE)-credits. De groene stroom kan ook deels verkocht worden én het vraagt minder vergaande aanpassingen aan de netaansluiting als je stroomopwek- en gebruik combineert. Door een vol stroomnetwerk is het moeilijk om voor voldoende laadpunten bij specifieke distributiecentra voor elektrische vrachtwagens te zorgen. Het lokaal gebruik helpt om dit probleem te omzeilen.
Rol voor lokale politiek
In de praktijk gebeurt het zelf opwekken en laden nog weinig. Ondernemers voelen nog niet altijd de urgentie, kennen de regelingen niet of lopen in de praktijk tegen belemmeringen aan. ‘We spreken met dit onderzoek dus de vervoerders zelf aan, maar zeker ook lokale overheden. Zij moeten hun regierol oppakken en de kansen voor de opwek én gebruik van hernieuwbare energie op bedrijventerreinen aanjagen en bedrijven actief op weg helpen. De landelijke politiek kan ook bijdragen door het beleid zo in te richten dat het gebruik van zelfopgewekte energie gestimuleerd wordt. Dit door bijvoorbeeld financiële prikkels voor iedereen die producten en diensten hiervoor wil aanbieden’, aldus van Tilburg.
