iwell en Eneco voegen opslagcapaciteit toe aan elektriciteitscentrale

iwell en Eneco hebben een samenwerkingscontract ondertekend voor de opslag van stroom bij de Eneco elektriciteitscentrale Lage weide. Met de ontwikkeling en plaatsing van de iwell Mega Cubes ontstaat er een opslagcapaciteit van 7 MW en 14 MWh. Het systeem zal per jaar een hoeveelheid elektriciteit opslaan vergelijkbaar met het verbruik van zo’n 2200 huishoudens. Hiermee is het mogelijk om snel balans te krijgen in vraag en aanbod naar energie.

Het opstarten van een energiecentrale vraagt om elektriciteit en het opvangen van piekmomenten in de energiebehoefte zorgt voor een hogere inzet van de energiecentrale. Door gebruik te maken van een iwells batterij, kan deze tijdelijke hogere vraag naar stroom goed worden opgevangen. Met een 15-jarige samenwerking zetten de partners zich samen in om op efficiënte wijze de stroomvoorziening in deze situaties in balans te brengen.

De komende maanden werkt iwell verder aan de ontwikkeling van de Mega Cubes. De samenwerking met Eneco, gecombineerd met de investering vanuit twee Nederlandse Groene banken, maken het mogelijk het project te realiseren. De verwachting is dat de eerste Mega Cubes ingezet kunnen worden in oktober 2022.
