Makro heeft een grote zonnecentrale in gebruik genomen. Een feestelijk moment dat werd gevierd op het dak van Makro Duiven. Op nog 4 andere daken wordt druk gebouwd. In totaal worden er 8.720 zonnepanelen geïnstalleerd met een vermogen van bijna 5.000 kilowattpiek, vergelijkbaar met het verbruik van ongeveer 1.500 huishoudens per jaar.
Mogelijkheden in kaart
Eén van de kernwaarden van Makro is duurzaamheid. Het terugdringen van haar uitstoot neemt Makro evenzeer serieus. Het vervangen van alle koel- vriesinstallaties naar CO2 koel-vriesinstallaties is daar een voorbeeld van. Ook het realiseren van de zonnedaken is weer een grote aanvullende stap in de verduurzaming. Onafhankelijk platform Zoncoalitie trof de voorbereidingen en zette een tender uit, waarbij Groendus als winnaar uit de bus kwam.
Remko Wilson, directie Zoncoalitie: “Wij zijn in 2018 al gestart met alle voorbereidingen voor dit project. Ik ben blij en trots dat we het project nu met Makro en Groendus hebben gerealiseerd. Vandaag starten we met het opwekken van groene energie, zodat Makro een groene toekomst tegemoet gaat.” Marc van Putte, commercieel directeur van Groendus vult aan: “Niet alleen deze vestiging heeft een geschikt dak voor zonnepanelen. We bouwen momenteel ook vier andere zonnecentrales voor Makro in Delft, Nuth, Vianen en Groningen.”
Met eigen opwek bijdragen aan klimaatdoelen
Benjamin Weiss, CFO Makro Nederland: “Ik ben ontzettend blij met de zonnecentrales die we op onze daken realiseren. Met 5 zonnecentrales wekken we straks maar liefst 10 procent van ons energieverbruik, van al onze 17 winkels in Nederland, zelf op.”
Naast de directie van Makro was Olaf Schulze, director Energy Management, van Duitse moederonderneming METRO AG aanwezig: Schulze: “De zonnecentrales van Makro Nederland produceren meer dan 4 miljoen kWh per jaar. Een grote bijdrage aan de klimaatdoelen van METRO AG. En het maakt Makro Nederland één van de duurzame koplopers binnen ons concern.”
Vooroplopen in de energietransitie
Makro is een mooi voorbeeld van een grote organisatie die haar verduurzamingsplannen, ondanks een dynamische periode als (horeca)groothandel, heeft doorgezet. Marc van Putte: “Makro laat met hun zonnecentrales zien aan hun klanten en medewerkers dat ze duurzaamheid hoog in het vaandel heeft staan. En dat ze bereid zijn hierin te investeren. Tegelijkertijd heeft de realisatie een goede businesscase en dat maakt het een prachtig project.”
