Vanaf 1 september levert Jaguar The Fresh Company gecertificeerde klimaatneutrale sinaasappelen jaarrond aan Albron, een van Nederlands grootste ondernemingen gespecialiseerd in foodservice en foodconcepten in Nederland, en HMSHost Nederland, marktleider in de food- en hospitality branche voor reizigers onderweg op vliegvelden, stations en winkelcentra. Het inkoopproces staat onder beheer van inkooporganisatie Victoria Trading, waarmee Jaguar al een aantal jaar succesvol samenwerkt. Met klimaatneutrale sinaasappels ontstaat er nu een mooie vervolgstap.

Sinaasappelen is een belangrijk segment binnen de categorie onbewerkt fruit (circa 10%), dus het was voor ons absoluut zinvol om als eerste speler het speelveld opnieuw te definiëren. Dit bereiken wij door de CO2-uitstoot in de toeleveringsketen voor sinaasappelen substantieel te verminderen’.

Dat betekent dat we continu innoveren en zoeken naar de beste oplossingen binnen alle productgroepen. Zo gingen wij eerder dit jaar al over op 100% duurzame vis (in samenwerking met SmitVis en Good Fish Foundation) en stapten wij als eerste grote cateraar volledig over op biologische melk, karnemelk en yoghurt van Weerribben Zuivel. Met de klimaatneutrale sinaasappels van Jaguar kunnen we onze impact opnieuw verder uitbreiden. Het beheersen van emissies in de groente- en fruitketen heeft onze volle aandacht. Dat maakt deze samenwerking zo leuk!”
Het hele proces om klimaatneutraal te worden bestaat uit drie delen. De eerste fase is het in kaart brengen van bestaande emissies, gebruikmakend van primaire data uit de keten. De tweede fase bestaat uit het verminderen van de CO2-uitstoot met 35% (!) binnen 10 jaar. De resterende uitstoot wordt gecompenseerd via goedgekeurde projecten. Jaguar streeft ernaar de resterende uitstoot zoveel mogelijk te compenseren door middel van eigen projecten, zoals de implementatie van zonne-energie op boerderijniveau via zusterbedrijf Jaguar New Energies.
Vincent van Kuijen, Algemeen Directeur van Jaguar: “Jaguar ziet het als toonaangevend importeur en marketingbedrijf van (pers)sinaasappels als haar morele verantwoordelijkheid om een bijdrage te leveren door de CO2-uitstoot in de toeleveringsketen te verminderen. De eerste stappen zijn gezet. Ons commerciële team zal zich nu verder richten op de introductie van klimaatneutrale sinaasappelen in Nederland, Scandinavië, België, Duitsland en Frankrijk, in samenwerking met toonaangevende, op duurzaamheid gerichte retailers en foodservicebedrijven. Ons team is ook beschikbaar om een toelichting te geven tijdens Fruit Attraction van 4-6 oktober in Madrid”.
Het voorlopige certificeringsproces bij Jaguar werd begeleid door Pré Sustainability en de Climate Neutral Group. Dit heeft geleid tot een succesvolle audit, die voldoet aan de Climate Neutral Standard 1.0.
