Vandaag, 21 februari 2022, is het Green Energy Day. Vanaf vandaag is alle duurzame energie die we in Nederland produceren ‘op’ voor dit jaar, als we alles wat we dit jaar produceren achter elkaar zouden gebruiken. Zes Tweede Kamerleden hebben vandaag Green Energy Day gevierd door filmpjes op te nemen over hun plannen om het aandeel duurzame energie te vergroten. De filmpjes zijn te zien op www.GreenEnergyDay.nl. De Kamerleden namen deze op naast een XL-bureaukalender van twee bij drie meter bij de Tweede Kamer. Op de kalender is te zien dat er dit jaar voldoende groene energie is voor de eerste 52 dagen. De Nederlandse Vereniging Duurzame Energie (NVDE) heeft Green Energy Day drie jaar geleden geïntroduceerd. “Als we Green Energy Day elk jaar twaalf dagen opschuiven, komen we in 2050 uit op 31 december,” zegt Olof van der Gaag, voorzitter van de NVDE. “Dan is al onze energie hernieuwbaar. Dat is nodig voor het klimaat, maar biedt ook volop kansen voor economie en werkgelegenheid.”
Bedrijven, overheden, energiecoöperaties en consumenten werken al hard om het aandeel duurzame energie te vergroten. Nederland is bijvoorbeeld kampioen zonne-energie. Het coalitieakkoord stelt ambitieuze klimaatdoelen en trekt ook fors geld uit om die te bereiken. Het aandeel duurzame energie is naar verwachting 14,2 procent in 2022*. In tijd uitgedrukt is dat 52 van de 365 dagen, zodat Green Energy Day 2022 valt op 21 februari. In 2021 viel Green Energy Day op 16 februari*. Vorig jaar is het dus nog niet gelukt om Green Energy Day twaalf dagen op te schuiven. “Het glas is halfvol,” zegt Olof van der Gaag. “Er moet een forse schep bovenop om op schema te blijven lopen en in 2050 op 31 december Green Energy Day te kunnen vieren. Gelukkig laten tal van bedrijven en burgers zien dat het kan, en dat de energietransitie naast duurzaamheid ook nog eens banen en economische kansen oplevert.” Een concreet voorbeeld hoe de klimaatdoelen gehaald kunnen worden, biedt het onderzoek dat Aurora net deed naar het benodigd budget in de SDE++subsidie dit jaar.
De NVDE introduceerde het begrip Green Energy Day in 2019 om beter voorstelbaar te maken waar we nu staan en hoe we met jaarlijkse stappen uit kunnen komen op honderd procent hernieuwbare energie in 2050. We geven mensen die zich hiervoor inzetten een pluim en enthousiasmeren anderen. “Het gaat in de klimaatdiscussie vaak over verre jaartallen als 2030 en 2050, en over abstract klinkende percentages en doelen. Met Green Energy Day halen we de doelen dichterbij en laten we zien dat het te doen is om ze te halen, als we nu in actie komen,” zegt Olof van der Gaag.
Op de website www.greenenergyday.nl zullen in de loop van 21 februari de filmpjes van zes Tweede Kamerleden te zien zijn over hun plannen om Green Energy Day verder op te schuiven. Daarnaast staan er interviews met wethouders die hieraan bijdragen op de site. Gemeentes staan dit jaar extra in de spotlight, vanwege de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen in maart. Bovendien portretteert de NVDE doeners (burgers en bedrijven) die meehelpen om Green Energy Day verder op te schuiven.
